Second Phase of the Erasmus+ Project in Croatia: Fighting Climate Change Through Digital Innovation

During the past week (26 March – 1 April 2023), my colleagues Anna Maria Carratta, Valeria Barbierato, Stefano Santagata and I, from I.C. Lodi II “G. Spezzaferri,” took part together with our partners from Austria, Greece, France, Poland, and Croatia in the second phase of the project:

Erasmus+ Project 2022 – 1 – IT02 – KA220 – SCH – 000086101

“Power of Digitalization in Fighting Against Climate Change”

WP NO2 – STAFF LTTA

The second phase of the project took place in Croatia, specifically in Daruvar.

The activities were excellently organized by the association “IMPRESS.” The association’s volunteers are young people from all over Europe and the world, coordinated by President Tanja Herceg and Executive Director Dubravko Šoper. Through their commitment and youthful enthusiasm, they made this week intense and engaging, arranging numerous activities all aimed at finding new strategies to combat climate change.

Thanks to the workshops, we learned how to use the software “Scratch,” which allows users to create animations using a simple, visual programming language designed to introduce even young children to the logic behind computer programming. In turn, we will teach our students the basic concepts we have learned, in order to design an activity for the next mobility in Turkey. The workshop was held at the STEM Center of the Elementary School in Bjelovar, a school at the forefront of projects to fight climate change.

Additionally, in Daruvar, we visited a Technical Institute which, thanks to its robotics projects, has won numerous international awards.

Above all, we immersed ourselves in the local culture, including an interesting visit to the capital city, Zagreb, which is now fully aligned with the living standards of other European capitals.

All travels bring knowledge and personal growth, but Erasmus projects have something extra: the sharing and exchange of ideas among colleagues from different nations — teachers who will help shape the new generation of European citizens.
