Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2° “Giovanni Spezzaferri”

Primary school in Lodi with the administrative and management offices
Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2° “Giovanni Spezzaferri” is a big Comprehensive school (ages 3-14) in Lodi (North of Italy, Lombardy, 30 kmt from Milan).
The Institute includes kindergarten, Primary and Secondary school, totalling about 1460 students, about 200 teachers and 30 office workers and janitors. These students are divided into 12 different buildings, located in different parts of the town of Lodi and in 5 little nice towns around Lodi: the ones they would like to involve in the project are from one of our Secondary schools (3 Secondary schools: one in Lodi, one in San Martino in Strada and one in Basiasco). Our 3 Secondary schools are totally composed of 426 students.
Students of the Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2°come from very different social, economic and cultural backgrounds and have different social needs: some of them come from affluent and cultured families, many others live in the rural area around the town. In recent years, many foreign pupils, aged between 3 and 14, arrived at the school, and in recent years there have been more financial difficulties for families.
The Institute has an internationalisation plan. The institute prioritises the following objectives: inclusion, internationalisation, wellbeing of all, environmental education.
Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2° has some afternoon clubs: art, sport, robotics, STEM, STEAM activities, foreign languages, music instruments and other too. They also participate in many local projects about the environment (protecting our nature and recycling), theatre, volunteering and active citizenship. They have a Students Council, composed by representatives voted by each class.Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2°is also really focused on language learning: our students can take the KET exam, PET exam, Trinity A2, DELF A2 until the end of grade 8th.
Children in the kindergarten follow English language workshops and in the primary school there are French second language projects. In addition, in the kindergarten and primary school we have Montessori method classes, which may also continue in the secondary school in one years’ time.
The Istituto Comprensivo Lodi 2° has been participating and committed to Erasmus projects since 2017, considering the shared and enriched education of students to be very important through the collaboration of teachers and peer students from other countries.
Our previous Projects were: about students participation in the school decision-making process; about new technologies in education; one with French as the communication language about the importance of a good educational orientation to prepare the professional future against the early school leaving. Another one is about the importance of the culture in each Country to built the future of that Country. Some teachers of the Primary school are involved in Erasmus projects, with teachers from other European countries, to design and test new methodologies and innovative teaching activities in classrooms. The teachers of our Kindergarten are involved in some E-Twinning Projects with France as a partner to work with. We also received, last year some Romanian students and teachers to work about environment with our students . We are the coordinator country of an Erasmus+ Project KA220 about the power of new technologies in fighting against the climate change.
Every year the Istituto organises a Culture Week, which is a special week without traditional lessons: we organise workshops, meetings etc about different themes and cultures.
The Erasmus staff is composed of some people, coming from different departments. All of them speak English: Anna Maria Carratta (Vice Principal, French teacher), Mariella Marini (English teacher), Stefano Santagata (Technology teacher), Valeria Barbierato (Math and Science teacher), Concettina Mimmo (Italian, History, Geography teacher), 1 teacher of Special Needs. People in the Erasmus staff have different roles (communication, dissemination, writing the final reports, activities with students).
Anna Maria Carratta is the Erasmus+ Projects’responsible, Responsible of quality of the project, the project manager and the contact person. Luca Antaloro (coordinator of the Administration) is the responsible for budget managementThe Principal, Mrs Carmela Maria Antonia Riganò supports the team and follows the project at every stage.
